Now I've got a name - a face.

It's no secret that the characters in the Landscaper are visually based on myself and the people in my life. This wasn't always intentional. The character of Daniel does have a lot of similar physical characteristics to myself, however this was how I saw the character in my head in the beginning. Subconsciously though, the other characters in the comic began to take on visual characteristics of friends as well. I truly believe Caleb's (appearance only) mind you, is based on my best friend, Dwayne. I figured that the two main characters should have similar personality traits, but opposite physical traits, and I believe Dwayne and I have those. I was always taller with brown hair - brown eyes, as he is a little shorter than me with blond hair and blue eyes. (Although the color Caleb's eyes don't really matter, as his eyes are always depicted as white.) Some people have asked me : why I chose to make the gang members  (ie) Caleb to be pupil intolerant. This was a bit of a happy accident, but it did help develop a theme through out the comic, which I really liked in the end. Caleb's first sketch did depict him with proper eyes, but I just didn't like the way he looked. Then, whist erasing the eyes to attempt to have another go - I realized I really liked him with just white eyes. It kind of gave him his own look and gave him more of a menacing appearance, which I could use to my advantage when ever he was cast in a deep shadow. Ok - back to the characters. Brian who was a pretty important character for the story was based on a guy my wife works with at their factory named Grant. I really wanted a likeable father figure type character for Daniel, and this guy fit the profile perfectly. Of course. I ripped him out of the story in the second page for a purpose. I didn't want Daniel to have a voice of reason or a friend at all through out the comic, to help accelerate his decline and to set him up to be the LS. Not only was Brian taken away from Daniel as a friend, but because Dan was isolated it allowed him to feed more on his rage rather than ration thought. - I'll write more soon. c-
